We believe learning is essential for driving impact. Through learning, we can better understand how complex social change happens—and design effective program strategies to support it.

Our culture of learning at the Ford Foundation is centered primarily on three paths: evaluating our program strategies to identify what is working—or not working; creating space for our grantmakers and grantees to reflect on their work; and supporting independent research on important social justice issues and the philanthropic field.

Closing the feedback loop: Results from our Grantee Perception Survey

In the results of our latest Grantee Perception Report survey, organizations provided candid suggestions on how we can improve as a funder. This year, we showed strength in impact to grantees’ fields, impact on grantee organizations, and our selection process. We need to continue to improve on responsiveness.

Evaluation of Ford Foundation’s Natural Resources and Climate Change International strategy

Since 2019, our 10-year Natural Resources and Climate Change International Strategy has sought to support efforts to ensure that natural resource governance and climate change actions increasingly serve the public interest and reflect the collective rights and aspirations of impacted rural, low-income, and Indigenous Peoples’ communities—particularly in the Global South.
