Three decades ago, 17,000 leaders and women’s rights advocates from 189 countries convened in Beijing, culminating in the landmark Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action—a comprehensive blueprint for advancing gender equality.

Central to this plan was the recognition that without addressing violence against women, achieving genuine equality remains impossible. As a result, the historic gathering led to the enactment of 1,583 legislative measures worldwide addressing violence against women, including 354 laws specifically targeting domestic violence. But it proved not the cure we longed for.
