“Journalism should connect people by building understanding of different perspectives.”

Hui (Lulu) Ning is an award-winning journalist and editor. She currently leads the international news desk of Initium Media, a Chinese media platform focusing on independent and in-depth reporting.

A distinct element of her reporting since 2016 focuses on China’s various connections with the international community, with special attention on politics, economy, and environment. She has reported from more than 20 countries and works closely with journalists from around the world. Many of her projects benefit from cross-border collaborative investigations.

Before journalism, she worked for Oxfam and UN Women in Beijing on climate justice, poverty reduction, and gender equality. Her education focuses on politics, public policy, and journalism. She’s originally from China and currently based in Brussels.

Vision: A world in which people listen to all sides of every story. Journalism should continuously create inclusive and critical narratives, in which people may find common ground and shared goals.
