
Lane Sugata is a nonprofit and philanthropic leader working to support mission-driven leaders and organizations. They hold a global grants portfolio focused on arts and culture, civic engagement, and gender equity.
Lane joined the foundation in 2018 after serving as the founding executive director of the service organization Dance/NYC for eight years. Prior to Dance/NYC, they held the senior development role at the arts-wide advocacy group Alliance for the Arts. Lane also trained at the Bolshoi Academy, School of American Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet and spent their early career as a performer with American Ballet Theatre Studio Company.
Lane is an appointee to New York City’s Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission and a member of the board of directors of the Association of Performing Arts Professionals and Funders for LGBT Issues. They are a member of the Artistic Advisory Committee for the Pasculano Collaborative for Contemporary Dance at Lincoln Center and a member of Bay Area Cultural Funders for Equity. Lane is also past co-chair of the Arts Committee on Educational Policy and New York Grantmakers in the Arts, and past chair of the New York Dance and Performance Awards and the Arts Committee of the Municipal Art Society.
Lane has an MBA from Columbia Business School focused on social enterprise and strategic philanthropy, an MA in performance studies from the University of California at Berkeley, and a BA in philosophy from Princeton University.
