We believe learning is essential for driving impact. Through learning, we can better understand how complex social change happens—and design effective program strategies to support it.

Our culture of learning at the Ford Foundation is centered primarily on three paths: evaluating our program strategies to identify what is working—or not working; creating space for our grantmakers and grantees to reflect on their work; and supporting independent research on important social justice issues and the philanthropic field.
