J. Clifford Hudson, chairman, CEO, and president of Sonic Corp., serves on the Ford Foundation Board of Trustees. Hudson was named CEO and president of Sonic in 1995 and elected chairman of the board in 2000. Previously, he served as Sonic's general counsel, chief financial officer, and chief operating officer.
As part of a $500 million turnaround of an inner-city school district in Oklahoma City, he served as chairman of the board for the city’s public schools from 2001 to 2008. Having served on the board of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for 10 years, Hudson is now chairman emeritus of the trust. From 1994 to 2001, he was chairman of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation—a US presidential appointment.
Hudson's current board service includes the Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, the OU Foundation, and United Way of Central Oklahoma. In addition, he serves on the Board of Visitors of Georgetown University Law Center.
In May 2011, Hudson was awarded an honorary doctoral degree in humane letters from the University of Oklahoma. He graduated with a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma. In 1979, he served as an editor of the International Law Journal, a publication of the Association of Student International Law Societies.
