“I believe sharing stories can empower and liberate communities.”

Leadership: An organizer and advocate for migrant women, Mónica Ramírez began writing stories about farmworker and Latinx communities for a local newspaper when she was 14 years old. Through this experience, she learned the power of community organizing. Mónica founded and is president of Justice for Migrant Women, where she leads the organization’s efforts to advance the human and civil rights of migrant women workers and their families.

A nationally recognized leader on issues affecting migrant women in the US, Mónica has a decades-long history of fighting gender-based violence. Her recent efforts include working as a part of the farmworker movement, alongside organizations like the National Domestic Workers Alliance, to educate Congress on issues affecting women workers.

Vision: Mónica hopes to broaden the scope of her work to advocate for migrant women globally. Her ambitious vision is focused on eradicating gender-based violence and building community power to change laws, systems, and institutions.
