Ryan Etzcorn is a program associate in the China Office. He supports the strategy implementation with research, data analysis, and knowledge management.
Prior to joining Ford in 2019, Ryan received a 2017-2018 Fulbright Research Fellowship to study the effects of China’s evolving charity legislation and regulation on civil society in its southern Guangdong Province. He also previously worked on global engagement with China at the United States Trade Representative, as well as in the US nonprofit sector promoting collaboration with China on issues ranging from higher education to immigration and bilateral investment.
Ryan’s Mandarin proficiency and early experiences living in China were made possible by multiple Foreign Language Area Studies fellowships and a Critical Language Scholarship from the US Department of State. He received a master of public policy from the University of Michigan’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and a master of arts from its Lieberthal-Rogel Center for Chinese Studies. Ryan received his bachelor’s from Michigan State University.
