Ford Foundation to Assist Public Benefit Programs

December 2, 2009 By Stephanie Strom

The Ford Foundation committed $80 million on Wednesday to strengthen public programs and policies aimed at helping the unemployed and low-wage workers.

The new initiative is among the first signs of how a reorganization overseen by Ford's new president, Luis A. Ubiñas, has changed the way the foundation operates. Ford, which in the past has usually announced much smaller grants in piecemeal fashion, is now packaging its grants in bigger bundles in hopes of increasing their impact.
