1 February 2008Ford-funded Group Fighting Effects of Dioxin in Vietnam
This lake was once a popular fishing spot for local residents, but dioxin in the sediment has contaminated the food chain. The U.S.-Vietnam Dialogue Group works to advance containment efforts.The US-Vietnam Dialogue Group on Agent Orange/Dioxin, a bipartisan non-governmental initiative comprised of distinguished Vietnamese and American leaders, is dedicated to addressing the legacy of Agent Orange/dioxin throughout Vietnam.

Established in 2007 with support from the Ford Foundation, the Dialogue Group builds on significant work done by the Vietnamese and our regional office in Hanoi, as well as the U.S. Department of State and Environmental Protection Agency.
A recent report by the group reveals that the first round of containment measures are now in place in, and around, Danang Airport—the former American military airbase in central Vietnam.
In a recent press release the group reports progress on key goals, including efforts to:
- Expand services to people with disabilities
- Open a high-resolution dioxin testing lab
- Restore damaged land to productive use
- Increase awareness of Agent Orange and dioxin
- Engage key leaders and promote collaboration
