Reducing HIV/AIDS Discrimination and Exclusion
Team
Ana Luisa Liguori works in the foundation's Mexico and Central America office and has responsibility for two portfolios. Her sexuality and reproductive health grant making supports the rights of the region's excluded women by promoting safe reproductive health services and a stronger public response to femicide. Her HIV work supports the rights of people infected or affected by the virus, with a particular focus on the region's migrant population.
Ana Luisa joined the Ford Foundation in 2007 after working for 12 years at the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. She served as MacArthur's country representative in Mexico and had responsibility over the human rights and reproductive and sexual health and rights programs.
Prior to that, Ana Luisa worked for 22 years at Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History where she conducted research on women and labor, Mexican sexual culture, and gender issues and AIDS. She is a member of the editorial committees of Culture, Health and Sexuality, a British journal; and debate feminista, a Mexican feminist journal.
Ana Luisa was born in the United States and grew up in Mexico. She trained as a social anthropologist at Mexico's National School of Anthropology and holds a master's degree in communications from the Faculty of Political Science of Mexico's National University, where she also completed a five-year cinema training course.
