24 August 2012Support for Multimedia Documentary Projects
In its second year, the Tribeca Film Institute New Media Fund will provide a total of $400,000 to six multi-platform, multi-format documentary projects that advance social justice. These “transmedia” projects combine the potential of new media with the power of film, so that stories can have deeper and wider impact. The projects being funded focus on a range of issues and subjects, including immigration, workers’ rights, race and life in rural America. The fund, launched in 2011, is a partnership with our JustFilms initiative.

Tribeca gives transmedia grants
August 22, 2012 By Gordon CoxTribeca Film Institute, the nonprofit that is loosely affiliated with the Tribeca Film Festival, has tapped six multi-platform, “transmedia” projects to receive a total of $400,000 for its second annual round of grants from the TFI New Media Fund.
The fund, presented in partnership with the Ford Foundation’s Just Films Initiative, is part of Tribeca’s larger overall push into the arena of storytelling that extends beyond the movie screen, with the festival recently announcing it would inaugurate a fest award for transmedia titles. Recipients of the fund support are interactive, nonfiction transmedia projects.
