Reforming Global Financial Governance
News from Ford
9 August 2012Making Sense of Financial Reform
How does the global financial system work? Can it be reshaped to advance a better economic future for all? The daily online magazine The Globalist is opening up those questions through a new series, Reforming Global Finance, with support from the Ford Foundation. The series features essays and analyses on hot topics in economics, financial markets and global financial governance. Independent and nonpartisan, The Globalist reaches a diverse, worldwide audience with news and perspectives on the economy, politics and culture. The magazine puts a particular emphasis on globalization, calling it “the biggest story of our lifetime.”
Funding for the series is provided through the foundation’s Reforming Global Financial Governance initiative, which aims to make the global financial system more effective, transparent and accountable. In an essay providing context for the series, Ford Foundation president Luis Ubiñas wrote that “seemingly arcane and highly technical issues... have a direct impact on economic and political stability, on our ability to create fair and equitable societies, and on people’s lives around the globe... The task ahead is to rethink and restructure regulatory regimes in a way that puts financial institutions at the heart of economic development once again, that reflects our democratic values and enables us to build a better economic future for all.”
