Eastern AfricaMedia, Arts and Culture
We support activities that help strengthen local broadcast media and support training programs for young interns and early-career journalists. Our grantees also have contributed significantly to transforming the arts and culture landscape throughout the region, particularly in Kenya. We have cultivated arts institutions, encouraged creativity, helped build new art spaces and laid a foundation for the emergence of a vibrant arts community.
GlobalMedia
We support organizations working to ensure that today’s media systems contribute to a better-informed citizenry, encourage public participation in civic life, and offer inclusive and accessible space for analytical and creative expression. Our work seeks to promote freedom of expression and strengthen substantive journalism that addresses important civic and social values. Our grantees support public policies that encourage media systems to serve and be accessible to the public’s diverse constituencies, interests and civic needs.
IndonesiaMedia, Arts and Culture
Our work in this area aims to increase acceptance and appreciation of diversity, particularly in the area of cultural expression, and to strengthen the cultural sector as a vital voice nationally and internationally. We support development of stable and independent organizations, increased networking within the cultural sector and professionalism in arts administration and technical infrastructure.
Middle East and North AfricaMedia, Arts and Culture
This area of work supports an independent artistic community and creates new spaces for free expression. Our efforts build on the premise that imagination, creativity and criticism are essential for the development of vibrant, open and just societies. Grant making in this field focuses on sustaining innovative arts communities and the energy and experimentation that artists, cultural workers and media professionals bring to political, social and civic life.
RussiaMedia, Arts and Culture
We support organizations that seek to preserve the democratic traditions of a multinational Russian culture under new historical and economic conditions, as well as groups whose activities are aimed at improving the professionalism of responsible media. Our work in this field focuses on three primary areas: support for cultural innovation through contemporary arts; tolerance and diversity through media; and preservation and development of Russia’s audiovisual archives.
Southern AfricaMedia, Arts and Culture
Our work in these areas recognizes the centrality of culture and media to everyday life and their combined power as potent forces for social change. Accordingly, we support major cultural institutions in South Africa in their efforts to preserve, protect and promote the historical legacy of the country. In addition, we support media- and culture-based initiatives that seek to raise awareness and promote debate on critical societal challenges.
United StatesMedia

Vietnam and ThailandMedia, Arts and Culture
The foundation believes that thriving culture, arts and media are essential to a vibrant society. Under the Spaces for Creative Encounter and Expression initiative, programs are focused on revitalizing the documentary and feature film industries and encouraging artists to reflect on the world around them. We are also working to expand knowledge in the field of arts and culture management and to fund grants to document and preserve Vietnam’s diverse arts and cultural traditions.
West AfricaMedia, Arts and Culture
We support efforts to strengthen the preservation and promotion of West Africa’s cultural heritage and improve the quality and quantity of media coverage and documentation of arts and culture activities. We also seek to improve public awareness of and support for the arts and culture sectors. Our grant making focuses on strengthening cultural institutions and providing support for artists and journalists.
