Meaningful citizenship and democratic practice cannot thrive without strong public schools and higher educational institutions that are accessible and equitable in providing challenging educational opportunities. Our work supports educational institutions at all levels to expand access, innovate in the classroom, evaluate their efforts and share best practices.
Similarly, scholarship in key fields remains central to advancing public understanding, promoting civic dialogue and informing policy debates about complex social and cultural questions. We support interdisciplinary scholarship in the social sciences and humanities on the premise that complex problems are best approached from multiple perspectives, including a focus on gender, race, ethnicity, identity, religion and culture. We look for ways to build knowledge that deepens understanding of diversity and helps inform civic discourse in a continually diversifying nation and world.
