J. Clifford Hudson, chairman, CEO and president of Sonic Corp., serves on the Ford Foundation Board of Trustees. He is chair of the board's Education, Creativity and Free Expression and a member of the Finance and Investment committees.
Hudson was named chief executive officer and president of Sonic in 1995 and elected chairman of the board in 2000. Previously, he was general counsel, chief financial officer and chief operating officer.
As part of a $500 million turnaround of the same inner-city school district, he served as chairman of the board for the Oklahoma City Public Schools from 2001 to 2008. Having served on the board of the National Trust for Historic Preservation for ten years, Hudson is now chairman emeritus of the National Trust. From 1994 to 2001, he was chairman of the Securities Investor Protection Corporation—a U.S. presidential appointment.
Hudson's current board service includes the Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools, the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, the OU Foundation, and United Way of Central Oklahoma. In addition, he serves on the board of visitors of Georgetown University Law Center.
In May 2011, Hudson was awarded an honorary doctoral degree in humane letters from the University of Oklahoma. He graduated with a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center and a bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma. In 1979, he served as an editor of the International Law Journal, a publication of the Association of Student International Law Societies.
