Grant Makers
Margaret Rugadya works on natural assets and community rights issues in the foundation's Nairobi office. The goal of her grant making is to advance and consolidate reforms in land and natural resources that will improve the material well-being of women and young people in Eastern Africa.
Margaret joined the Ford Foundation in 2010, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise working for more than a dozen years with communities, nongovernmental organizations and government. She has conducted development policy analysis and action-oriented research on land and natural resources, and she has consulted for a range of institutions including the government of Uganda, Norwegian Embassy, USAID, World Bank Uganda Country Office, World Conservation Society and Rural Development Institute.
Previously, Margaret was executive director at Associates Research Uganda and a program officer with Uganda Land Alliance.
Margaret holds a master's degree in sociology and a bachelor's degree in information science, both from Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda. She has also earned postgraduate diplomas in management; legislative drafting; and urban land management and settlement regularization. Margaret is completing her doctoral thesis for a Ph.D. in public policy and policy analysis from the University of Maastricht-Netherlands.
